What are we doing? Really. You have this event, this occasion, and it means something to you. It is important that you have the right pictures to take away from it. There are a lot of options, so what I, the photographer, choose to shoot has to be in concert with that greater mission that you have. In order for me tro be an extra pair of eyes for you, I have to understand teh real meaning of what is happenening at your event. When the job is over, I have to know that the client is saying to themselves, "yes, that is what I wanted."
What happens at your event will be, at some point, very beautiful. It is my job to make notes that are faithful to what really happened. I put a bias on it. I am not looking to make cheap cynicism, moodiness, or too-hip-by-half work.
The core purpose of the occasion will be either love, celebration, education, commemoration, or observation.
If the event is good, it will look good in photographs.
